The Classification and Compensation Group consults with and advises University managers and supervisors on the following:
- organizational structure,
- evaluation of work assigned to those positions that are Subject to the Personnel Act of North Carolina (SPA)
- evaluation of work assigned to those positions that are Exempt from the State Personnel Act of North Carolina (EPA)
- and compensation issues.
In addition, the Classification & Compensation Group approves the establishment of new positions and performs the study of existing positions in both the Salary Graded System and the Career Banded System.
As the needs of the departments change and positions evolve, this Group assists current employees by providing them with the necessary information for making career growth decisions.
Staff Employees
All staff positions are subject to the State Personnel Act of NC (SPA). The SPA positions are classified as subject to or exempt from overtime according to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
EPA Administrative Employees
Faculty, Senior Level Administrators, and EPA (non) Faculty positions are Exempt from the State Personnel Act of NC. The UNC General Administration establishes EPA Policies.
Faculty
At this time, The Office of Human Resource Services does not handle the Classification and Compensation System for Faculty.
